Funding opportunities

NSERC and FRQNT graduate scolarships 🇨🇦

All Canadian students interested in graduate studies should apply for NSERC graduate scholarships and FRQNT graduate scholarships. The deadline for both these programs is early in the fall (September – October). Interested students should contact a potential supervisor as early as possible to prepare a winning application. Ideally, contact me in the summer.

Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 🇨🇳

This program is for Chinese graduates, teachers, researchers and senior professionals. The selection of Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) is a long and rigorous process that can last several months. Under normal circumstances, successful candidates would typically travel to Canada before the end of February to begin their program. Scholarships are usually for four to 12 month periods of research in Canada, but do not involve formal enrolment at a Canadian university. The recipients are placed as visiting scholars.

Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE) 🌍

The Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies is responsible for managing the program. This program is directed at foreign students (with study visa or work permit) who wish to undertake or continue their studies or research activities in Québec. The program offers $25,000/year (max. 3 years) for doctorate students or $3,000/month (max. 4 months) for short Master student projects. Learn more about the program.

For undergraduate students wanting to do a summer research internship, the MITACS Globalink program offers attractive bursaries for international undergraduates from the following countries and regions: 🇦🇺 Australia, 🇧🇷 Brazil, 🇨🇳 China, 🇫🇷 France, 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇭🇰 Hong Kong SAR, 🇮🇳 India, 🇲🇽 Mexico, 🇹🇳 Tunisia, 🇬🇧 United Kingdom, 🇺🇸 USA, and 🇺🇦 Ukraine. From May to October of each year, top-ranked applicants participate in a 12-week research internship under the supervision of Canadian university faculty members in a variety of academic disciplines, from science, engineering and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences. Our lab proposes many research projects for this program every year.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 🌍

This scholarship program was established to recruit and keep in the country the best doctoral students in the world by offering them scholarships of considerable financial value. Plan to submit an application one year in advance. This program offers $50,000/year (max. 3 years) for doctorate students. If the university for doctoral studies is ÉTS, the nomination is made on the recommendation of an ÉTS professor.

Scholarships for ÉTS’ Bachelor’s graduates to pursue Master’s or PhD studies

To apply for a scholarship under this competition, you must have a research project and a thesis supervisor. Plan to submit an application one year in advance. This competition awards $20k/year for a duration of two years if you are applying for a Master’s or for three years if you are applying for a Doctorate.
